Ruth S. Wimett, 93, died Friday, March 18, 2011 at Rutland Regional Medical Center.
Miss Wimett was born on March 13, 1918 in Proctor, VT the daughter of Alfred and Isabel (McDevitt) Wimett.
Ruth graduated from Pittsford High School in 1935 and UVM in 1939.
She taught commercial subjects in Poultney from 1939-1943 before serving her country with the WAVES from July 1943 until 1945, attaining the rank of Lt. (JG).
Following her discharge, Ruth was employed by the American Bankers' Association as an executive secretary from April 1946 until retiring in March of 1980, at which time she returned to her home in Pittsford.
She was a member of St. Alphonsus Church, the church choir and the parish council and volunteered at the Information Desk at R.R.M.C. for 20 years.
She was a longtime member of the Pittsford Historical Society.
She is survived by one sister, Dorothy Wimett Costello of South Burlington; nieces and nephews Cathryn Wimett and her partner Eileen Kruetz, Edward J. Costello Jr.and his wife Donna , Sara Costello, Sean Costello, Paul Costello and his wife Maria, Daniel Costello, Mary Costello-Lazare and her husband Steve, Thomas Costello, and Steve Costello and his wife Jane; 12 great nieces and nephews, and one great, great niece and nephew.
She was predeceased by her parents, brothers Alfred J. (Bus) Wimett and his wife Anne and Robert Wimett, her sister Alice Wimett and brother-in-law Edward J. Costello.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at 11 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Pittsford, immediately followed by a reception at the parish hall. Burial will be at a later date in St. Alphonsus Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, March 21 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Barnard Funeral Home in Pittsford.
