- Several death records list parents Patrick Wallace and Ruth Chase:
Mary A (Wallace) Chase here d. 1907 aged 78, so born about 1829
Thomas A Wallace [1] d. 1862 aged 29, so born about 1833.
Bridget Frances (Wallace) Gray [2], d. 1907, aged 66 so born about 1841.
Patrick Wallace [3] d. 1907, age 65, so born about 1842.
But all the census records even as early as 1850 in Fall River show a wife named Catherine, born in Mass., not Maine (even though the age is probably about the same). The census also shows two additional children: Elizabeth, b. about 1831, and Martha b. about 1838.
It is unclear what happened to Ruth as no death record is found, nor a marriage record for Catherine. A Ruth C. Wallace d. Fall River in 1887 [4], birth in late 1800 in Maine, which could be her. This of course, would seem to imply they divorced, but this Ruth is not found in any of the census records to get any kind of confirmation that she was living separately from 1850 to 1881 when Patrick died. It would be convenient to suggest Ruth went by the name Catherine, but the discrepancy in birthplace seems to argue otherwise. More research is needed.
