Ruben Dieffenderfer was a Private in Co. H., 49th Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteers. He mustered in on 15 June, 1864 and mustered out 21 Sept 1864. He is buried in Forest hill Cemetary, West Buffalo Township, Union County, Pennsylvania.

Ruben died in a U. S. General Hospital in York, Pennsylvania 9-21-64. His cause of death was "congest remit fever".
