Rowland Clark, age 67, died in Idabel, Oklahoma, September 6th. He was born in Clarksville, Texas, on January 26, 1944. Clark joined the RCA in 1962, after being instructed in steer wrestling by Lige Hammock and Todd Whatley. Rowland also competed in Wild Horse Races and Wild Cow Milking contests. Some of the men on his teams were C. R. Boucher, Clyde Vamvoras, Leonard Lancaster, Art Riley, Freckles Brown and his son, Clint Clark. After retiring from rodeo in 1972 he worked on the Alaskan pipeline. He was a proud member of Local 798. At the time of his death he was a welding inspector. Clark never forgot his rodeo roots and was a PRCA Gold Card member, belonged to the Rodeo Historical Society, Rodeo Cowboy's Alumni, and a volunteer with the Cowboy Reunion held at Las Vegas, during the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. He was inducted in to the Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame this past spring. He received posthumously the NFR "Good Ole Boy" award. He has been active in chuckwagon races the past few years and enjoyed participating in the National Championship Races held Labor Day weekend. He was a great friend to all that knew him and a wonderful story-teller and entertained his friends continually with accounts of his experiences and those of cowboys he had known. Services were held on September 9, 2011 at the Museum of the Red River, Idabel, Oklahoma, with Larry Brinkley and Donna McSpadden officiating. Interment was at the Clark Ranch at Garvin, Oklahoma.
