Resided in and around Newcastle, WY all his life until 1960 when they moved to Spearfish, Lawrence co, SD where he still lives very comfortably.

Ross Lewis (Junior) Allen, 80, Spearfish, died Monday Jan 18, 1999 in Spearfish from Emphysema. His ashes have been scattered by his son--in-law over the family ranch east of Four Corners, WY.

Ross Lewis (Junior) Allen was born March 28, 1918 to Ross Winfield and Anna "Lorella" (Kovak-Smith) Allen in Newcastle, Weston County, WY. He grew up on the family ranch in Weston County which was the famous Canyon Springs Prairie Stage Station where the Deadwood Stage Robbery occurred.

He married Bertha Lavina Procunier, daughter of Avon Francis and Vina (Phillips-Foster) Procunier, July 11, 1939 in Newcastle. To this union were born a daughter, Bertha "Elaine" on Sept 10, 1940 and a son Francis Ross on March 7, 1943, both in Newcastle.

In the early '40s, Junior drove a team pulling a sled with a woodstove in the back as a school bus. Upon leaving the ranch, he worked for the US Forest Service at Hardy Ranger Station near O'Neil Pass in South Dakota. He and his brother Ervin had a sawmill on Stockade Beaver Creek in Weston County, WY. He later drove the Stockade Beaver Creek High school bus to Newcastle He then worked for Jack Graham Service Station and carried mail along the Morrisey route. Bertha and Junior moved to Spearfish in 1960 where he became known as Ross. He worked for the US Forest Service again and retired from there in 1981.

He was a great family man and dearly loved hunting and fishing with other family members.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha in 1994, his parents, Ross W. in 1984 and Lorella in 1982, one sister, Anna Marie Rawhouser in 1994, and 2 brothers-in-law.

He is survived by his daughter, Elaine and her husband Dean Allen of Belle Fourche, SD. One Son Francis (Frank) and his wife Judy Allen of Riverside, CA. 2 sisters and 1 brother; Ariel Cole, Ervin and wife Rose Allen, and Lorna and husband Carl (Bill) Hansen, 4 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
