Hi Dalton, I had not heard from you in quite a while, I trust everything is fine with you and your wife. I was in North Alabama last weekend and did a little research while there. I wanted to visit some cemeteries but the rain kept me out of cemeteries. I did go by the Etowah County Education Annex which has the school census. I found the following information on R. C. Gilliland & Nellie Nix Gilliland: 1942 school census PARENTS: Gilliland, R. C., Gilliland, Nellie ADDRESS: Route 3, Altoona, Ala. School:�����Howelton CHILDREN: Arthur born April 27, 1926

School Census 1946

Mt Hebron was the school that #4 thru #8 atteneded if I read it right. There was no school listed for the others other than Walnut Grove School District.

I assumed since Mary Lee was listed as Gilliland in the 1942 School Census and as Mary L. Spence in the 1946 School Census, to me it appeared she had been married by that time. But on her marriage license when she married my brother, she is listed as a Gillilan. Another mystery to try and solve, don't you think?

Dalton, It was good to hear from you. The information below is the death of Nellie L. Nix Gillilan's husband. I recall that Nellie is in your Nix Family. Since receiving this I haven't gone back to my information on all Roscoe's daughters married names but I am sure that some of them are different from what my nephew gave me. So without knowing for sure, some of them must have had more than one spouse. With this information I find that Roscoe & Nellie's daughter Mary Lee Gillilan Kelsoe by 1956 had apparently been married three times. Mary Lee's first marriage was to my oldest brother. (Fact, I have a copy of marriage certificate.) Second marriage to a Spence (last name was Spence according to 1946 Etowah Co. School Census). Third marriage to a Bryant (according to the obit from Gadsden Times). Anyhow I just wanted to pass it along to you. Hope to hear from you soon, Chris Her second marriage
