Burned to death after wedding party, 27 Mar 2023.

A man who was trapped in a fire after a wedding celebration at Parkville on Saturday night suffered burns from which he died yesterday in Royal Melbourne Hospital.
He was Ronald Pilkington, 38, of Verdun st, Maidstone.
His brother, Jack Pilkington, 30, of Nicholson st, Footscray, suffered burned hands in rescuing him.
After their niece had been married the Pilkingtons went to a celebration in a Housing Commission hut at Camp Pell, occupied by William Bell. Pilkington was invited to stay at the hut for the night, and was going to bed when a fire started near a stove. Bell and eight other members of his family dashed from the hut, but Pilkington was trapped inside. His brother and Bell returned and dragged him from the blazing building. The hut and contents were destroyed.
Earlier in the day a small boy playing outside the hut was knocked down by a truck. He was Edward Mayor, 22 months, who lived in an adjoining building. The boy was admitted to Children's Hospital with internal injuries. His condition is serious.
