    Robert Dean Thompson, 94, Topeka, died Monday, Aug. 27, 2001, at a Topeka retirement home.

    Mr. Thompson taught printing at Pittsburg State Teachers College and later retired as foreman of the lithographic room at the Kansas State Printing Plant in 1972 after 35 years of service. He was particularly proud of the work he did with color print for the Dyke Museum of Natural History at The University of Kansas and the former "To The Stars" magazine, which became KANSAS! magazine.

    He was born July 27, 1907, on a farm near Berryton, the son of Harvey W. and Anna Lee Cochran Thompson.

    He graduated from Berryton High School in 1928 and attended Pressman's Home Technical Trade School near Rogersville, Tenn. Mr. Thompson was a charter member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. He also was a member of Capital City Gun Club. And he shot competitively, hunted quail and taught marksmanship and firearms safety to his children and grandchildren.

    He married Louise Annen on May 23, 1936, in Topeka. She died Jan. 12, 2001.

    Survivors include two daughters, Marie Alkire, Mesa, Ariz., and Margaret Murdock, Topeka; a brother, Clyde O. Thompson, Topeka; a sister, Jean Thompson, Topeka; and a grandson.

    Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Graveside services will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery. A luncheon in O'Conner Hall at the church will follow the graveside services. Mr. Thompson will lie in state after 3 p.m. Friday at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, where a parish prayer service will be at 4 p.m.
