Kingston Native Loses Life at Sea
A native Kingstonian, First Mate Robert Perry Stevens, age 65, lost his life by enemy action while on board a ship of the Upper St. Lawrence Transportation Company. The ship was sunk in the South Pacific on Feb 22.
Born and educated in Kingston, Mr. Stevens was interested in shipping since the age of 14 when he became employed on a ship operating in the Great Lakes. He served overseas during the First World War.
Besides his wife, the former Florence Kidd of Kingston, he is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Herbert Schofield of Longueuil, Mrs. Fred Burton of St. Lambert and Mrs. J. Gibbons of Montreal, all in the province of Quebec; one son, Williard Stevens of Longueuil; one sister, Mrs. W. Toner, and one brother, Alfred Stevens, both of Kingston.
