Just a note to let you know that brother Bob passed away Sat evening at 8:00 P.M. He was put in the hospital thur because he was having a hard time breathing and they were worried about his heart. Fri. he was better but Sat took a turn for the worse. Al and I saw him at 4:30 and he was really breathing hard but was aware of everything , we left at 4:30 and shortly after that he was not aware of anything. Mr. Smith retired from the Navy with an EN1 rank, and served in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. His memberships included Wabash Avenue Presbyterian Church, where he sang in the choir. He was educated through the Navy and attended Wabash College for two years.
He was born July 5, 1926, at Henderson, Ky., to Samuel Alexander and Mary Ann Crowder Smith.
Survivors include son Samuel Joseph, Hortonville, Wis.; three daughters, Audrey Smith Kortz, Indianapolis, Laura Marie Smith, East Wenatchee, Wash., and Mary Axsom, New Market; three brothers, Sam and Al, Crawfordsville, and Chuck, Linden; a sister, Susan Smith; Cheryl Everett, Crawfordsville; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services are scheduled 2 p.m. Thursday at Wabash Avenue Presbyterian Church with the Rev. John Van Nuys officiating. Burial with military graveside rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and the Navy will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Grant Avenue. Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Wednesday in Hunt & Son Funeral Home, 107 N. Grant Ave. Condolences may be e-mailed to [email protected].
