    ROBERT E. (BOB) LYNCH
    ST. ALBANS
    Thursday, December 06, 2007

Robert E. (Bob) Lynch, 86, died Friday evening, Nov. 30, 2007, at the Haven Health Care facility in St. Albans, after a brief illness. Most recently he resided with his daughter Gail and son-in-law Michael Dugan, at their home in St. Albans. Bob and his wife Mary were long time residents of Burlington, Vt., and St. Augustine, Fla.
Bob was born on Jan. 29, 1921, in Roxbury, Mass., to Clarence E. Lynch and Mildred (Parrott) Lynch. Bob just happened to have been born in Massachusetts because of his father?s employment with the Railway Express Company. He returned to Vermont as a toddler and was, at heart, a true Vermonter.
Bob attended Cathedral Grammar School & Cathedral High School, graduating with the Class of 1940. He was most proud of his membership on the 1939 and 1940 Cathedral State Championship Basketball Teams. Caddy?s friendships from those years lasted his lifetime. Bob studied at St. Michael?s College until World War II broke out, when he joined the United States Marine Corps, 3rd Marine Division, serving proudly in the South Pacific. After completing his wartime service to his country, he married Mary Elizabeth Kelley, in Bennington, Vt., on Aug. 28, 1946. His wife of 61 years survives him.
Bob is also survived by his three children and their families, Gail (Lynch) and Michael Dugan of St. Albans, Edward D. Lynch of Ellenburg Depot, N.Y. and Nora (Lynch) and Dennis McKenzie of Colchester, Vt. Bob leaves seven granddaughters, Kate McKenzie Rugg, Amy Lynch, Tara Dugan Banks, Ellen McKenzie Cislo, Mary-Brigid Dugan Nousiainen, Molly Dugan, Kelley Lynch, and one very special grandson, Liam McKenzie. Also surviving are three great-grandsons, three great-granddaughters, seven nephews, six nieces, and many dear cousins. Bob leaves his brother, John ?Jack? Lynch and his wife, Louise of Burlington, Vt.; a sister-in-law, Helen Kelley of Rutland, Vt.; and a brother-in-law, William ?Bill? Kelley and his wife, Jean of Vestal, N.Y. Bob was predeceased by his parents and two stepbrothers, Kenneth and Bernard Hayes and their wives. Our dad loved his family, loved a good joke and loved life. God be with you Dad.
Bob worked for a division of Brunswick Corp, for whom he traveled all of Northern New England and Northern New York State for over 37 years, providing medical supplies to doctors and hospitals. Bob also spent many years employed as a court officer for Chittenden County Sheriff?s Department. Besides his memberships in the V.F.W., B.P.O.E. & the Knights of Columbus, Bob enjoyed playing golf with his buddies, coaching youth baseball or basketball, and watching his favorite team, the Boston Red Sox.
Bob and Mary followed local and state politics closely, always enjoying a good debate with family and friends. They both spent many hours volunteering for the American Heart, March of Dimes, Vermont Cancer Fund, and St. Mark's Parish where Bob served as an usher.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Bob?s name be made to the Cathedral/Rice Alumni, or to Rice Memorial High School, 99 Proctor Ave., South Burlington, Vt. 05403.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow, Dec. 4, 2007, at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main St. in St. Albans. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2007, at 11 a.m. in St. Mary?s Church on Fairfield Street in St. Albans. A cremation committal will take place at the convenience of the family.
