Robert W. Kincheloe came to Wood County in 1795 with his brother, Daniel, Jr. (buried this cemetery). He settled on a large tract of land on the Little Kanawha River.
He was commissioned by an act of the Virginia Legislature - June 23, 1801 - to lay out a road from the Virginia State Road to the mouth of the Little Kanawha.
Robert was elected Captain of the Second Battalion of the Wood County Militia, and then Major of the 1st Battalion.
He was to became Wood County Justice of the Peace in 1812, and later served as High Sheriff.
Robert W. Kincheloe's second wife, mother of all his children except his eldest son Jeptha, was Mary, daughter of George Creel, Sr., and Mary Athey Creel.
Robert's parents were Daniel Kincheloe, Sr., and Elizabeth Wickliffe, members of the gentry class of Prince William County. His grandfather, John Kincheloe, possessed a large plantation on Bull Run, located on the border of Prince William and Fairfax counties. Captain Daniel Kincheloe, his father, led a company of county militia in the French and Indian War. His plantation was called "Canterbury."
