The Will of Captain Robert Cotchet of Mickleover, Derbyshire

"I Robert Cochet of Mickle Over in the countie of Derby, gent., being in good health, ... To Anne my wife one third part of all such lands and tenements as I have in the counties of Stafford and Derby for the term of her life, for an addition to her jointure. Daughter Anne Cochet £500. Daughter Sarah Cochet and son Nathaniel Cochet £400 each and all my Debenturs for service done to the Commonwealth by myself and others of whom I have purchased them, amounting in all to £534. To my Son Thomas and heirs all my lands etc. in Titburie and Castlehay Parke, co, Stafford, within the Manor of Melbourne and the Manor of Barwardcoate, co. Derby, except my wife's third part as aforesaid. If any of my children, vizt., Anne, Nathaniel and Sarah, die before the age of one and twenty, the portions of him, her or them soe dying shall goe to my sonne and heir. I give and bequeath vnto my sister Dorothy Joyce, wife of one John Joyce of New England, or to their children, if my sister their mother be dead, the sumrne of five pounds. Niece Rebecca Ridgeway £5, Maimed souldiers and poor widows of souldiers of this countie £5. Twenty Bibles to 20 poor householders in Mickle Over. Brother in law Joseph Swetnam, and my friend Samuel Berisford, ministers in Derby, 20s. each. Residuary legatee and executrix, my wife Anne. Dated 5 Sept., 1657. Witnesses: James Wright, William Newton, Stephen Wall. Proved 5 April, 1658, by the executrix. (P. C. C. Wotton 128.)"[4]
