MITCHELL---Robert Dean Clampitt, 77, passed away at 12:55 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.
Born October 17, 1935, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Dale and Leona (Hatfield) Clampitt. He married Rita Chastain August 20, 1983.
Bob retired from Otis Elevator and served eight years in the Indiana National Guard, 138th Armor, Bedford. He graduated from Shawswick High School in 1955. Bob loved Gospel music and liked to sing in quartets.
Surviving are his wife, Rita Clampitt, Mitchell; Children, Jeffrey Dale Clampitt, Bloomington, Indiana; Kristy (William) Workman, Indianapolis, Indiana; Jan Reynolds, Orleans, Indiana; Judi Ann (Jake) Taylor, Mitchell, Indiana; 8 grandchildren, 7 great grand children, and his Brother, William Wayne (Margie) Clampitt, New Castle, Indiana. His parents, and one brother, Charles Raymond Clampitt, preceded him in death.
Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 8, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Rev. Steve Jones officiating.
Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery with military honors accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.
Friends may call from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday and from 11:00 a.m. until the service on Friday at the funeral home.
