[James Sherman Gibson.FTW] According to certain records (M Lee McCann, "leem725@@yahoo.com") Ritchey w as married twice. The 1st time to Sarah McNeal and the 2nd time to Mary Re ynolds b. 1812. The relationships to Adam Ritchey, Sr. + Agnes Bolton -> E lizabeth (unknown) is from this source. Also the relationship between Ad am Ritchey, Jr. w/ Abigail Dill and consequently Matthew Dill + Jean Brack en is also from this source. There is some confirming info from Donald Bruner re Ritchey Campbell via m essage center info posted in 2000-2003. This info indicates that Ritchey h elped build the first log school in Henderson Co., and was schooled the re . He and the family are mentioned in the pub. "The History of Henders on Co., IL." These records indicate he was born in Scott Co., IN abt. 181 7. he was one of 9 childen. However, the 1850 Census shows his place of bi rth as Ohio and indicates a DOB of about 1817. Ritchey is listed as o ne of the early settlers in Henderson/Warren Co. Historical records in Her derson show him living in Hale Twp. as of 10 March, 1829. In 1840 census shows Ritchey Campbell living Warren Co., IL with 2 sons un der 5, 1 son betw/ 20-30, and 1 daughter betw/ 20-30. Also next in li ne on the census are John and James Campbell and their families, probably relatives. Info from R. Rosol indicates Ritchey and Mary had 4 so ns (1) John R., (2) William L., (3) James Bruce, and (4) Francis Marion. 1850 census introduces a new twist since it says Ritchey Campbell was bo rn in Ohio, but the other census records say Indiana (1860,1880). Addre ss age and other data are confirming it's the same person. Could be an err or in using the birthplace of Mary Reynolds. In 1860 the census shows he was living in "Township 11 N 4 W, Henderson Co ., IL. 1880 census shows he is living in Biggsville, Henderson Co., Ill. Living w ith him at that time are his niece Nancy E (36) and presumably her 2 child ren Cora (sp?) (13) and Sarah. A. BIRTH: "History of Henderson County" states that Ritchey was born in Sco tt County, IN. 1840 Census 12N 4W East Bald Bluff, Warren County, I L, p. 199, age20-30, wife and two males under 5. 1850 Census 11N 4W, Hend erson County, IL, p. 37, age 36, born OH. 1860 Census 11N 4W, Hendeson Co unty, IL, p. 356, age 42. 1865 Census 11N 4W, Henderson County, IL, p. 1 9. 1870 Census Biggsville P.O. 10N 4W, Henderson County, IL, p. 6, age 5 2. 1880 Census 10N 4W, Henderson County, IL, p 26B, E.D. 89, dw. 236, fa m. 239, widower, age 62; his niece, Nancy, is living with him, along wi th two girls, presumably Nancy's daughters. EDUCATION: Came to Henderson County, IL, when he was about 12 years ol d. His educational advantages were extremely meager. He helped to cut a nd haul the logs and build the first schoolhouse in the county, which he a ttended; and, by the light received through greased-paper window, studi ed his lessons in the old Webster's spelling book ("History of Henderson C ounty," published 1882). RESIDENCE: Settled in Hale Township, Warren County, IL, March 10, 1829. L ived west of Sugar Tree Grove neighborhood. In 1882, he resided on his fa rm in Section 19, Township 10, Range 4, where he located in 1867. RELIGION: United Presbyterian Church of Henderson, Warren County, IL. Al so known as the Associate Presbyterian Church of Henderson near "Sugar Tr ee Grove" in Hale Township. Member of the United Presbyterian Congregati on of Smith Creek, Henderson County, IL (Minute Book 2, dated 1863). Admi tted February 5, 1859, dismissed February 10, 1866, by certificate. His niece, Nancy, is living with him, with two gir ls who must've been her daughter's. Ritchey Campbell was born in Scott County, Indiana, October 4, 1817. Comi ng to this county as he did, when but about twelve years old, his educatio nal advantages were extremely meager. He helped to cut and haul the lo gs and build the first school-house which he attended in the county, and t here, by the light received through greased-paper window, studied his less ons in the old Webster's spelling book. He 21837, he was united in marria ge with Miss Mary S. Reynolds, by whom he reared a family of four sons: J ohn R., William L., James B., and Francis M. She died in 1879 and was bur ied at South Henderson. Mr. Campbell's second wife, Miss Sarah A. McNea l, was born of Scotch ancestry in Argyle, New York.
