Sorting Out the Richards

Cranfield records include several Richard Wheelers whose relationships are unclear. They include:

1) Richard senior, the elder, bur. 6 Jul 1616, whose will dated 4 Jul 1616 mentioned his 3rd son Lewes Wheeler (under 17), son Thomas Wheeler (under 21), son Henry Wheeler (under 21), daughters Elizabeth Wheeler, Anne Wheeler, Sarah Wheeler (all under 21), son William Wheeler (sole executor), wife Elizabeth, and eldest son Richard Wheeler (under 17).

2) Richard junior (born say 1590) had a son Richard (baptized 5 Dec 1613; specifically called s/o Richard junior) and cannot be a son of Richard senior #1 whose son by that name was only 17 in 1616. Other children of Richard junior were probably Susan b. 1618, Saran b. 1620, and Elizabeth b. 1622.

3) Richard, son of #1, born say 1599 (age 17 in 1616).

4) Richard senior married Elizabeth Breed on 28 Nov 1622. They were probably the parents of 6 children: John b. 1623 (called s/o Richard senior), Ann b. 1626, Mary b. 1628, Christian 1630, Richard b. 1632/3, and Sarah b. 1635. He could be either #2 or #3.

5) Richard baptized 5 Dec 1613 was probably son of #2.

6) Richard baptized 13 Jun 1614 was identified as the son of Thomas of Town End.

7) Richard bur. 13 May 1656 with poss. wife Mary bur. 27 Jul 1653.
