Andrew,
An update to military list. Uncle Ted flew a Corsair
and was stationed somewhere on the east coast,
maryland I think. He attacked german submarines. There
were several large photos of him flying the Corsair on
various people's walls for 50 years and probably still
there. He also did flight instructing in pensacola for
several years during the korean war. The family moved
down there for several years.
When they left, my cousin chuckie stuck little a gold
star on the floor of Dorothy's dining room and said he
wanted to see it when he got back. Dorothy, a
meticulous housekeeper, put wax on it and sure enough
it was still there when he returned. She never took it
off and it was still there when I saw it again 30
years later and probably still was when she died. That
should give you some insight into what kind of person
Dorothy was...
My dad, Richard F. was also in the navy and in flight
training when the war ended. He never flew combat.
Also, I was down to the local Boulder county building
recently and there are several big lists of war
veterans. On the WWI list there appears a Fred J
Waber. I dont know who this is. I checked local
property records but no further info. I may check
further if I can find time...
