Richard Galen Stockett was born in Anne Arundel County, Maryland on February 7, 1776. He was educated at St John’s College and became a pupil of Dr. Rush at the University of Pennsylvania from 1797 to 1898. He returned to Maryland and settled in Anne Arundel County. He was a Surgeon in the War of 1812 at Baltimore. He received an Honorary Medical Degree from the University of Maryland in 1826, but gradually gave up his medical practice for agriculture. Dr. Stockett died in Howard County, Maryland on February 27, 1861.
