The successor of Mr. Hunt [brother in law Samuel Hunt, first settled minister in Dartmouth, hence himself second] was the Rev. Richard Pierce, who also lies in the same old burial-place, and whose epitaph contains all I have obtained of his memory, as follows:
"Memento mori. Here lieth interred the remains of Richard Pierce, A. M., who was born March 29th, 1700, and departed this life March 23d, 1749, after having spent 16 years in the work of the Gospel ministry. A gentleman of an unspotted character in the office he sustained, of polite behaviour, remarkably affable, and kind to all; who lived greatly beloved, and died much lamented. Cujus pulvis in pulvere, dormit, expectans stellam matutinam."
