from obituary (Arkansas Democrat, Fri. Dec. 18, 1903): “Former State Treasurer Died at His Home at Booneville. A message was received in Little Rock night from Booneville announcing the death of Hon. R. B. Morrow, former state treasurer, at his home in that city at 6 p. due to an attack of pneumonia. A telegram received a short time before bad announced that, be was critically ill and was not expected to survive many hours. His wife, his son, Don Morrow, and bis daughter, Mrs. J.. Bibb, formerly Miss Annie Morrow, were with him when tbe end came He was stricken with pneumonia a week ago, and gradually grew worse until the end came. Since his retirement from office of state treasurer In January, 1895, he had devoted his time to mercantile pursuits, and had announced bis intention of becoming a candidate for railroad commissioner in tbe ensuing campaign. Mr. Morrow was 54 years old, and had resided in Arkansas nearly all his life. He began his political career in 1874. when be was elected county treasurer of Sebastian county, an office which he held for five successive terms, retiring In 1884. In 1890 he entered state politics, and made the race for state treasurer against Vm. E. Woodruff, who had office from 1881, nearly ten years. The race was an exciting one, and the result was still in doubt when the state convention met in Little Rock on June 17, 1890. When It came to a vote Morrow received 262 votes to 239 for Woodruff. He served two. terms and then retired, being succeeded by Hon. Ransom Gulley. He made an excellent record as state treasurer, and his administration saw treat reductions made' in the state debt. He was a moot polished gentleman and sterling citizen, who ever had the best Interest of his state and community at Mr. Morrow Is survived bv his wife, son and daurhter. Mrs. Morrow is a sister of Mr. L. Yates, deputy state treasurer.”
