Richard was a member of Merchant Taylors Company of London, Carribean planter, Carribean explorer & councilor of the Island of Providence. After his death, Lord Cromwell issued his widow a pension of 11 shillings per week for Richard's services to England & her sufferings[1].

Richard, his wife and first 3 children were part of a group that emigrated from England to the Island of Providence (West Indies) in 1635:

'16 Aprilis 1635 / Theis p'ties hereafter expressed are to be transported to the Island of Providence imbarqued in ye Expectacion Cornelius Billinge Mr, having taken the oaths of Allegeance and Supremacie: As likewise being conformable to the Church of England; whereof they brought testimonie from the Ministers and Justices of Peace, of their Abodes. ...
