    "10. Capt. Richard3 Douglas (William2, William1), born in New London, Conn., July 19, 1682. He married, Dec. 7, 1704, Margaret Abell, of New London. … Richard was a sea-captain and accumulated a very comfortable competence by his industry. He was occasionally chosen surveyor of highways by the town. Hempstead says he 'fell dead as he was steering a scow up to Mr. Richards’s wharf,' Feb. 26, 1734-5. The inventory of his estate was £2,868, but it was not divided till 1751."
