Richard Dexter was baptised on 24th May 1740 at Owthorpe in Nottinghamshire, son of Richard Dexter and his wife Elizabeth.

Richard was married at Owthorpe on 4th May 1766 to Sarah Wild. Shortly after their marriage they left Owthorpe and moved about six miles south-east to Hose in Leicestershire, where they have five children baptised between 1767 and 1779.

Some time between 1779 and 1792 they moved again to Shelton, about 12 miles north of Hose and back in Nottinghamshire. Their eldest daughter, Betty, married a John Cuckson there in 1792.[3]

Richard died at the age of 53, being buried at Shelton on 26th February 1794. Sarah survived him by over 41 years.

  3. ↑ Betty appears in the 1851 census as Betty Cuckson living at Rolleston in Nottinghamshire, giving her place of birth as Hose, confirming that the family having children at Hose in the 1760s and 1770s was the same family who later lived at Shelton.
