Gender Male
Birth[12] Abt 1786

BIRTH: Probably Virginia as the 1850 census for Brown county, Illinois (p. 155B) appears to indicate VA as place of birth. However the first letter is smudged and possibly could be a G (GA) or a P (PA). On this census, Reuben gives his age as 64, suggesting birth abt 1786. Three of Reuben's children are alive in 1880 - each gives different info as to Reuben's birthplace. Mary (Pope) Sweet says Virginia. Martha (Pope) Sweet says Georgia. Sarah (Pope) Spates says Tennessee

Census 1830 Kentucky, Shelby County. p. 258. M19 #41. No Twp L .Reuben age 44, and Ann, age 38 are listed as with one male 15-20, one male 10-15, and one male 5-10, three females under 5, and two females 10-15 (one might possibly be Sarah, depending upon accuracy of tombstone inscription which indicates 1821 as birth year). The female who was 45 or older in 1820 is no longer listed in the household.

1840 Illinois census, Schuyler County. Page 116. 4th precinct.M704-#69 Reuben and Ann with one boy age under 5 (Thomas-who is listed as 16 one the 1850 census), one boy 10-15, one female20-30 (probably Sarah whose tombstone inscription indicates she was born in 1821), two females 10-15, and one female under 5 (Harriet who is listed as 13 on the 1850 census).

1850 Illinois census, Brown County, p.155B, shows Reuben as age 64 (suggesting that he was born about 1786), birthplace,Virginia, occupation farmer; wife - Ann as 58, born PA.; Thomas age 16, born Ky.; Harriet - age 13, born Ill. Move from Ky. to Illinois thus occurred between 1834 and 1837.  !With Reuben 64and Ann 58 on the I850 Illinois census, there are two males 10 -15, one male 26-45, one female 26-45 (not Sarah as she married Samuel Spates in 1845), and two females 10-15 (one would be Harriet). It appears that another family is living in the household at this time. ..... The neighboring household is that of Edison Hymer age 36 born in N.C. and includes his wife Nancy (Reuben's daughter) age 32, born in KY; James age 10; Mary age 8; and Abraham age 3.
