Obituary - March 8, 1912 - Amsterdam Evening Recorder: MRS. ALEXANDER MCGREGOR Word was received in Amsterdam today announcing the death of Mrs. Rebecca Putman, widow of Alexander McGregor, a former resident of this city and the town of Florida, at her home, No. 14 Faxon street, Utica. Mrs. McGregor was stricken with paralysis Wednesday evening and gradually failed until the dissolution between 6 and 7 o'clock this morning. The deceased was in the 86th year of her age. Mrs. McGregor for many years resided on the south side of the Mohawk river, across from the village of Akin. Later she removed to Amsterdam with her husband, who died here in April, 1896. About seven years ago she took up her residence at Utica, with her son, John A. McGregor, and her daughter, Mrs. Jacob McClumpha. Mrs. McGregor passed her early life in Lewis county. She was a woman of many estimable qualities and during her residence here she endeared herself to many who will sincerely regret to learn of her demise. Besides the son and daughter already mentioned, she is survived by another daughter, Mrs. Lewis A. Casler of Amsterdam, five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a half sister, Mrs. Switzer Campbell of Copenhagen, New York The remains will arrive in Amsterdam Monday and the funeral will be held in the chapel of the Second Presbyterian church Monday afternoon, at 2 o'clock. The Rev. Dr. H.T. McEwen will officiate. Interment in Green Hill. References
