1. Married Rebecca McCullum. B & D dates, Burial Place Nathaniel Cloud, Jr. was in the War of 1812, and was listed as a member of Col. Marshall's Co., leaving the 24th day of February 1810; 2nd Company of 1st Regiment of Delaware Militia (Delaware Archives, Vol..4, p251). A letter to Joseph Haslet, Governor of Delaware, dated 17 July 1813, show him on the list of enrollment of the Brandywine Cavalry, New Castle Co., Del (Del Archives, vol.4, page 566) Nathaniel, Joseph and Isaac Cloud were on the list of others taken at Dist. Election at house of Geo Miller, 6 Oct 1812, New Castle co. Del. (Del Archives, vol.2 page 903) In the 1820 census, Nathaniel Cloud is listed as a property owner in Meigs Township, Adams Co.Ohio. Heowned property at Jackson, Ohio in 1821. He was in Scott Township, Adams Co. Ohio in 1830 census. In 1850, 60 and 70 census he is listed in IA, immigrating there with his family. He and his wife Rebecca McCullum are buried in Castek Cem. JohnsonCo. IA, just west of Swisher, IA. source Lineage of James Wayland Cloud, 11204 Greystone, Okla City, OK73120 2. I believe that the father and mother of Nathaniel Cloud (10 Feb 1791 - 16 July 1878) were Thomas Cloud [(1750-1760)- (1830-1840)] and Margaret Carson ( 20 Jun 1766 - 3 Sept 1854). !3. The 1880 Census for Samuel, Allen and James R. all show their parents birthplaces as PA. The F E Babcock diary summary also shows PA as birthplace for both. !4. The 1856 and 1860 census for Monroe Township in Johnson County, Iowa show PA as birthplace. !5. The following 1857 letter coupled with my notes for Nancy Cloud provides powerful evidence that my great-great grandfather Nathaniel Cloud (10 feb 1791-16 July 1878) was a son of Thomas Cloud and Margaret Carson. I will now address this powerful letter addressed to my great-great grandparents, Nathaniel Cloud (10 Feb 1791-16 July 1878) and Rebecca McCullum (25 Jan 1796-10 Nov 1862). This letter is included as reference because of the significance of this letter in my ancestry review. I (Lyle G. Cloud) received a copy of this hand written letter on 18 April 2003 in the data package from Ardis Crull. I have a scanned copy as well as the copy from Ardis. I have retyped the letter in word as best that I can reconstruct it. I have used the original spelling of all words in the cited letter. I believe it to be representative of the handwritten copy. Mammie Bailey has original of this letter. Febuary 20, 1857 Dear Brother I take my pen in hand to write to you to let you know that we are all well at present through mercy hoping that these few lines may find you all enjoying the same blessings. Nancy Cloud is well. Her family is all married. She lives with her youngest daughter. Her family is well. Prudence Sharp a nd family is well. I received a letter from James Sharp rote Feb. 14. He said they were all well then. Two of his boys is in your state and one of them has lost his wife out there. William Cloud & family is well except the sore eyes. His two oldest boys is married. Noah Cloud & family is midling well. There is two of my family married. One boy & one girl. Them & their familys are well. All the friends & relatives in here are well. It is very healthy here now. Our much lamented mother is no more. She was living with Noah when she tuck sick. She sent for me. She was sitting up when I got there & went to the table and eat soon after I got there Then when they were all out she told me what she wanted me to do with her things and said she could not get to my house any more, that her time had come. The doctor was thare but she said she would not take any medison. She was taken on Wednesday and died on the next Saturday week which was the 3rd of September 1854. I was there nearly all the time. She at times said she did not think she would have to suffer so long and seamed anxious to depart and be with Christ. You must excuse me for not writing before now for Prudence wrote to Henry Carson and I thot that she had wrote to you till lately one of the Williams boys got a letter from one of your boys then we found it out so I wrote to you to let you know how things is. Mother left a little money. It is divided amongst her heirs. There is fourteen dollars for you in my hands. There is fifteen dollars more in Marion for you. That is money from Thomas Cloud land that is not in my hands, Then there will be eleven dollars more when TC Cloud pays for his land. Now if you want me to send your money to you in a letter I will do so if you will be responsible for it after it is put in the office. Send the name of your post office. The money that is in Marion you will have to send an order to me or I cant get it. I will write one and send it to you and you can put your name to it and send it back to me. We had a very dry summer and cousequently midling crops. Wheat is $1.10 per bushel. Com 40 per bushel. Horses is they a good horse will fetch $125. Cows from 20 to 40. Hogs 4.25 per hundred. We have had a very cold winter but not much sno. Sno was only about four or five inches deep. It has been very wet here for two or three weeks and still raining today. The timber is loaded with slate. Our wheat looks fine. I have not heard from our friends in Pennsylvania for three or four months. Our relations wer all well then. Uncle John Carson is no more. He died better than a year ago. Aunt Sarah Scott is ded. We heard from Rush County lass fall. The friends were well there. Ellis Fox is no more. He died some-thing like two years ago. Uncle Joseph Carson and several of his boys lives near Indianapolis I was at Alexanders last fall and they ware all well. He lives near Tipton town in Tipton county. Young Joseph Carson lives there to. Newton Springer lives close there to. He married Uncle William Carsons Sarah. I was there last fall they went there in the fall of 1855. Uncle Joseph Carson was very stout for his age this last fall but Aunt was not expected to live. I have not heard from there since I was at Alexanders. A Carson is a Freemonter. His father, his brother, his son are all on the other ticket.
