"Rebecca Hayes, Branford, Ct., … daughter of Captain Ezekiel and Rebecca (Russell) Hayes, of Branford, aunt of Rutherford Hayes who married Sophia Birchard and was the father of Rutherford Birchard Hayes, nineteenth president of the United States, born in Bradford [Branford], Oct. 30, 1750, died in Romulus, N. Y., Dec. 9, 1827.

Captain Abel Frisbie was master of the sloop Sea Flower, fitted out and loaded for Carolina. —Colonial Records of Connecticut, May, 1777. Captain Abel Frisbie was 'Master of a vessel in the West India trade. In 1776 he was shipwrecked, entered the United States Navy, and was not heard of at home for seven years. His wife finally married John Mix, of New Haven, and bore him a daughter, one month old when Captain Frisbie returned. After much difficulty it was agreed by all parties that she should decide between the two husbands, Each was allowed ten minutes pleading of his cause, and she decided in favor of the first husband. Mr. Mix honorably acquiesced, but he never recovered from the shock. The daughter, Elizabeth Mix, married William Reed, of Belle Isle, New York, and died in 1844."
