Obituary[9] 25 Oct 1985 AVON -- Ray E. Kinney, 80, died late Wednesday night at the Mid Maine Medical Center's Thayer Unit in Waterville, where he was a patient since Sunday, following a long illness.
He was born at Avon May 26, 1905 the son of Leonard and Mabel Tyler Kinney. He was educated in the schools of Phillips and graduated from Phillips High School, class of 1925. Mr. Kinney was a town clerk and present deputy clerk for many years. He also served the town of Phillips as tax collector, school board member and moderator for town meetings for many years. He was worthy patron of the fomer Sherburne Chapter 117 OES for several years, a 55-year member and past master of Blue Mountain Lodge 67, AF and AM, of Phillips where he received the past master gavel and pin for the oldest past master. He was member of Phillips Chamber of Commerce; the Phillips Men's Club; Phillips Methodist Church, where he was an active member and lay leader; Phillips Senior Citizens; and was a worker for Phillips' Old Home Days. Mr. Kinney was also past noble grand and past district deputy of Saddleback Lodge, IOOF, where he recieved his 50-year pin; and was a member of Hope Rebekah Lodge of Phillips. He married Ruth Leavitt Oct. 25, 1935 at Phillips. They would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Friday. Mr. Kinney was active in sports, especially baseball in high school, and was an avid gardener.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth, of Avon; one daughter, Priscilla Goding of Ticonderoga, N.Y. and two grandchildren.
