Facts and Events
Article Taken From The Adair Citizens Paper of OklahomaS1-- Fruit pays well for Ralph Jackson, age 16 years. Strawberries and plums are both paying crops in Mayes County as every horticulturist knows. But, it is not every experienced hand that can produce the profit from a small strawberry bed and two plum trees that Ralph Jackson, 4-H Club member of Adair has realized this year. Ralph has just been notified of winning on $22.00 in cash offered by Jim Parker of Tecumseh for exhibits at the Oklahoma State Fair and stories of how fruit was produced. This is by far the largest sum awarded to any single member of the fruit club this year and includes the highest sweepstakes prize of ten dollars, two report prizes of five dollars each for carefully written accounts of both strawberry and plum production and two individual exhibit prizes of one dollar each. So, Ralph is an all around champion this year. In addition to these special awards, Ralph cleared $5.37 off the products of two plum trees and $15.80 from his strawberries. Both the prize winning stories will be included in the 1928 edition of the fruit club bulletin which is published by Mr. Parker and mailed to all fruit club members.
