BOONEVILLE - Q. D. Pollard, 71, died Sunday, April 30, 2000, at the North Mississippi Medical Center after a sudden illness. He was born April 22, 1929, in Alcorn County to Marcus and Lathe Carpenter Pollard He was n U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War He was a retired sheet metal worker and a member of the Sheet Metal Workers' Local No 4 of Memphis. He taught sheet metal apprenticeship classes at the Yellow Creek Nuclear Plant during the construction of that facility. He was a High Priest Group leader, a Stake High Counselor and a former member of the Bishopric of the Booneville Ward of the Tupelo Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints. He was a former Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts. He was secretary treasurer of the New Candler Water Association. He served as a Justice Court judge in Prentiss County from 1976 until 1980 He was a master storyteller, an avid fisherman, and enjoyed traveling, especially to Alaska.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 2, at the Booneville Funeral Home Chapel with President Harry T. Brown, Bishop John T. Larsen and Patriarch J. C. Morris officiating, and Bobby Smith and John Ray Pollard assisting. Burial will be in the Smith Family Cemetery, with grave dedication by David Pollard.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years. Mary Deane Smith Pollard, whom he married Aug 23, 1953, six children, Rebecca Deane Piersky and her husband, Randy, Quentin David Pollard and his wife. Marsha, and Dawn Elaine Floyd and her husband, Ned, all of Booneville, Rachel Lynn Rinehart and her husband, Bruce, of Rienzi, Turns Jean Haug and her husband, Kevin, of Henderson, Nev., and Bynum Andrew "Andy" Pollard and his wife, Jennifer, of Stockton. Calif.; four brothers, Warren Pollard and his wife, Nona, of Columbia, S. C., John Ray Pollard and his wife, Rosa, of Gonzales, La., James Robert Pollard of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Dwayne Pollard and his wife, Betty, of Booneville, seven sisters, Verlene Heady and her husband, Orville, of Lake Jackson, Texas, Luvene Turner and her husband. Lawrence, of Memphis, Frankie Burks of Horn Lake, Pam English and her husband, Gene, of Jumpertown, Mary Robinson and her husband, Cotton, of Rienzi, Joanne Myrcle and her husband, Joe, of Nesbit, and Wanda Gahagan of Booneville; 21 grandchildren; one great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents: two brothers, Edward Pollard and Sidney Pollard; and a sister, Noralee Pollard.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers will be his fellow members o1 the High Priest Group, the Booneville Ward of the Tupelo Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints

Visitation will continue until service time today at the funeral home.
