WESTERN CITIZEN DEATHS, MAY 10, 1850

BROOKS, Mrs. Polly - At her home, in the vicinity of Paris, on the morning of Sunday last. Wife of Samuel Brooks and daugh. of Mr. John Gass of this county, in the 46th year of her age.

Her illness was long and attended with unusually severe and almost incessant pain which she endured with remarkable fortitude and resignation. Long will her many virtures, her unaffected kindness, her frank and cordial hospitality, her beauty, her friendships, her cheerful conversations linger in the memories of those who knew her.

Mrs. Brooks was a member of the Christian Church. Her religion was of that personal and practical kind that influenced the daily walk and conversations and bears fruit in the heart. In the hopes inspired by such a faith she died.

WESTERN CITIZEN DEATHS, MAY 3 [sic], 1850

BROOKS, Mrs. Polly, Died of the morning of Sunday last, wife of Samuel Brooks, and daughter of Mr. John Gass, of this county, in the 46th year of her age.

Her last illness was long, and attended with unusually severe and almost incessant pain, which she endured with remarkable fortitude and resignation. She felt no fear of death, but rather looked hopefully to it as a release from suffering here, and an entrance upon a new life whose joys fade not, and are eternal. With the trusting faith of a true Christian, and with a serene and untroubled mind, she awaited the result of the fearful malady which she knew to be incurable. If at any time she desired to live it was for the sake of her children and her husband, not for herself. For them she had lived, and labored with the cheerful and self-denying spirit of a mother the most affectionate, and a wife the most devoted. Long will her many virtues, her unaffected kindness, her frank and cordial hospitality, her hearty friendship, her cheerful conversation, linger in the memories of those who knew her.

Mrs. Brooks was a member of the Christian Church. Her religion was of that personal and practical kind that influence the daily walk and conversation and bears fruit in the heart. In the hopes inspired by such a faith she died. The gain has been hers. B.
