Page 97. - ↑ «i»Surname refers to a servant of the law. Stamvader is Jacobus de Wet of Amsterdam in the Netherlands. He was the son of Jacobus senior from Amsterdam who was a painter and Helena Stalmans (borne in May 1673). Jacobus junior worked for the Dutch Indian Company (VOC) since January 1693 and arrived the same year at the Cape on the ship 'Nigteveght'.
He was an assistant to Governor Simon n van der Stel, in 1696 he was the secretary to the small claims court and in 1701 an accountant. In 1704 Jacobus bought the farm Liesbeek. Citizen in 1708. Out of wedlock he farthered a child Jacobus Wilhelmus from Josina Pretoruis. Married on 13 April 1698 with Christina Bergh, the daughter of Olaf Berg. 6 children from the marriage.
Jacobus passed away in 1708.«/i»
