He was chosen deputy for the town of Haddam in May, 1776. He was Lieutenant in the 11th Co., 7th Regt., Oct., 1765, and it is said that he was in the Revolutionary War. He was chosen constable and collector Oct., 1757. He was a farmer.
From The Middlesex Gazette of Mch. 21, 1803, printed in Middletown, Conn.: 'Mr. Phineas Brainerd d. at Haddam, Mch. 8, 1803. By the wife of his youth he had an offspring of 9 children, 52 grandchildren, 48 great-grand-children, 1 great-great-grandchild. He early in life made a public profession of the Christian Religion, which he well adorned by his life and conversation; the benefits of which, he has left a comfortable hope to his surviving relatives and numerous friends, he now participates. He was a valuable member of the community; a person prudent, in council, interesting in acquaintance, friendly and endearing in his deportment, and unexceptionally esteemed and well respected by all who knew him. His funeral was attended on the 10th inst. by a large concourse of people. …'
