In the name of God Amen, the Eighth day of January in the three & twentieth yeare of the raigne of the Soveraigne Lord Charles the Second, by the Grace of God of England, Scotland, Frannce, & Ireland, King defender of the faith etc. & in the yeare of the Lord God 1671, I Phillippe Swancott the elder of Pen y Castle, in the Townshippe of Treflyn, in the parish of Llandiloes, in the County of Montgomery, & Diocese of Bangor, Gent., considering the Fraylety of mankind, & uncertenty of Death, in the time of this my perfect health, doe make; & ordayne this my last Will, & testament in manner Following, First I commend my Soule to the hands of Almighty God my maker, hoping, & stedfastly believing through the merritts, & mediation & passions, bloodshedding of my alone blessed Lord & Savioure Jesus Christ , to have, & receive full free pardon, & forgiveness of all my Sinnes, & my body to the Dust, from whence it was [....] bee buryed in the parish church of Llanidloes, in such Christian, decent sorte as to my Executors(?) hereafter named shall bee thought meete, & expedient, And as for such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to blesse me, I doe dispose thereof as followeth, Imprimis I doe hereby give, & devise to my youngest Sonne William Swancott All that my messuage, rents, & lands with the appurtenances, situate, lying, & being in the Towneshippes of Badayoch, & Maestregyent, in the parish of Trevegleos, in the said County, by mee heretofore purchased of one William Herbert Gent. sen(?) To have; & to hould the same to my said Sonne William Swancott, & the heires of his body lawfully to bee begotten, & for default of such Yssue, then to the use, & behoofe of my second Sonne Phillip Swancott, & the heires of of his body lawfully begotten, or to bee begotten, & for default of such Yssue, then to the use, & behoofe of the right heires of mee the sd Phillippe Swancott the elder forever Item I doe hereby give, & bequeath to my Daughter Joane Swancott the summe of one hundred, & twenty pounds of Currant english money, to bee payed unto her, by my Exor hereafter named within one yeare next after my decease, Itm I doe hereby give, & bequeath to my youngest daughter Mary Swancott the summe of one hundred, & tenne pounds, of like curr’t english money to bee payed unto her by my Exor hereafter named, within three yeares next after my decease, And if it happen that either, or both of my said Daughters Joane, or Mary do Dye, & depart this mortall Liefe, before the time herein before limited for the payment of their severall portions, or Legacies, as aforesaid, Then my will, & true meaning is, that the aforesaid summes to them or either of them herebefore bequeathed shall be by my Exor hereafter named equally divided between the rest, or soe many of my Daughters, as shall bee then liveing, & payed unto them upon the dayes herein before limited for the payment of the said portions to the said Joane Swancott & Mary Swancott as aforesaid, And whereas in, & by the setlem’t made upon the marriadge of my Daughter Bridget with Hugh Pryce Gent. It is (amongst other things) [de...ted] , that if my said Daughter Bridget happen to dye, within the space of three yeares next after such her marriadge, without issue, Then the moytie, or one haulfe of her portion should bee by the said Hugh Price, or his father, well & truly satisfied, & payed unto mee, or my Exor, at the time therein appoynted, Nowe my Will, and true meaning is, if my Exor hereafter named (if the same shall happen to become due, & payable mee, or my Exor) shall sue for, & receave the same, & equally devide the same betweene [...] my younge sonne William, & soe many of my daughters, as shall bee then liveing, & payd their severall Faies(?) unto them, & any of them, within two yeares next after the same shall [...] become due, provided allways, & it is my Will, & true meaneing, that if my second sonne Phillippe Swancott shall happen to dye, & departe this mortall liefe, without any issue lawfully begotten, & if that Estate by mee heretofore conveyed, & setled upon him, descend, & come to my said youngest sonne William Swancott, then my will, & true meaning is that estate herein before by mee devised to my said Sonne William shall cease, And I doe hereby give, & devise to all my daughters, to bee equally held, & enjoyed betweene them, untill such time as my said sonne William Swancott shall well, & truely pay unto them my said daughters, or to soe many of them as shall bee then liveing, the full, & [...] summe of threescore pounds of curr’t english money, to bee equally devided betweene them, & from, & after such paym’t, the estate thereof hereby before devised to my said daughters shall cease, And then, & thenceforth I doe hereby give, & devise the same to my said Sonne Wm Swancott, his heires, & assignes forever, as is herein before to him devised, And if it happen my said Sonne Wm Swancott shall dye, & depart this mortall Liefe without any issue of his body lawfully begotten, liveing att the time of his decease , Then my true will, & meaneing is, that my said Sonne Phillippe Swancott, his heires, Exors, or adm’rs, shall well, & truely out of the issues, & profits of the said lands, & rents, soe to him descending, & comeing by force of this my Will, by the decease of the said William Swancott, pay, or cause to be bee payed the like summe of threescore pounds, of like money, to my said daughters, equally to bee devided between them, or soe many of them as shall be liveing att such decease of the said William Swancott, And further my will, and true meaning is, that if both my Sonnes Phillipe, & William, happen to dye, without issue, And if the said lands, ten[emen]ts, hereditam’ts, & premisses, together with my Estate heretofore setled upon my said second sonne, Phillippe Swancott descend, & come to the right heires of mee the said Phillippe Swancott, being to my eldest Sonne Richard, or the heires of his body , then that my said Sonne Richard Swancott, & his heires, shall well, and truely pay, or cause to bee payed out of the rents, yssues, & profits thereof, the full summe of sixescore pounds of like currant english money, unto my said daughters, or to soe many of them as shall bee then liveing, to bee equally devided between them, Itm I doe hereby give, & bequeath to my said sonne William Swancott my best coffer, & trunk (being by mee excepted out of the deed of Setlemt made upon my Sonne Phillippe all his marriadge) Itm I doe hereby give & bequeath to my said Sonne William my best mare, sadle, & bridle. Itm I doe hereby give, & bequeath to my said sonne Phillippe Swancott my best bedstead, table, & cupboard, by mee excepted out of the deed of settlem’t made upon his marriadge, & all my vessells, or wooden wares, And as for the rest of my househould stuffe, as Brasse, pewter, Ironwares, Linnens, & Bedding with the appurtenances, I doe hereby give, & bequeath the same to my sonne Phillippe & unto my said two Daughters that are unmarried viz Joane, & Mary, to bee equally, & indifferently devided betweene them, within one moneth next after my decease, att the oversight of my Loveing brother in Lawe Richard Wilson, & my kinsman Edward Bennett. Item I doe hereby give, & bequeath to all my Grandchildren that shall happen to bee liveing att the time of my decease the summe of twenty shillings a piece of currant english money, to bee payed unto them, or to soe many of them as shall bee liveing when as they, or any of them shall attayne unto, & bee of the full adge of one & twenty yeares, they then giveing my Exor a Lawfull dischardge, And I doe hereby nominate , & appoynte my said Sonne Phillippe Swancott to bee sole Exor of this my Will, & testament, whom I doe upon my blessing enioyne to accept thereof, & see my Debts, Legacies, and funerall expences payed, & dischardged, & this my Last will in all poyntes honestly performed, Butt if it happen that [he] will not undergoe, & take upon him the Exorshippe of this my last will, then my true meaneing is that the severall legacies herein to him before bequeathed shall bee voyed, & of none effecte to all intents, & purposes, & I doe hereby bequeath the same to my said daughter Joane Swancott, whome I doe hereby nominate, constitute, & appoynte to be my sole Exor of this my last Will, & testam’t,& lastly I doe hereby nullifie, & renounce all former Wills issued heretofore att any time made, or declared, In wittness whereof, I have hereunto putt my hand, & seale the day & yeare first within written
