Philip2 Nelson (Thomas), born in England about 1633; was graduated at Harvard College, 1654, the only graduate that year; married 24 June, 1657, Sarah, daughter of Joseph Jewett. … He married (2) 1 : 11 mo. 1666, Elizabeth, daughter of John Lowell of Newbury. … 1681─"Mr Philip Nelson of Rowley wanders away and is lost from Ap. 5 to Satterday Ap. 9, Rowley and Newbury seeking him; on Satterday is found, having walked out of his place to take the air; it was between two Rocks on Crane-Neck." (Diary of Samuel Sewall, Vol. 2, p. 17). He was a justice of the peace and captain of a company "under the command of Sir William Phipps who is goinge against the French at Nova Scotia." He died 19 Aug., 1691. His will, dated 9 Apr., 1690, mentions wife, Elizabeth, to be executrix; eldest son, Philip; son John, daughter Mary Haseltine; brother Nehemiah Jewett of Ipswich; children (unnamed) by last wife (Essex Probate, 304:390). The inventory of his estate, taken Sept. 23, 1691, amounted to £500.
