    PHILEMON BEECHER came here a young man form Litchfield, Connecticut, in 1801, and opened a law office.

    He soon married Susan, a daughter of Neil Gillespie, whom he met while she was visiting her sister, Mrs. Hugh Boyle, in Lancaster.

    One of the daughter by this marriage married Henry Stanbery, and the other Colonel P. Van Trump.

    General Beecher was a good lawyer and an honorable man. He served as a member of the Ohio Legislature and as a member of Congress for ten years.

    He died in 1839, aged 64 years.
