    Colonel in the Union Army killed at the Battle of Chickamauga, Georgia.
    Philemon Baldwin was a resident of Madison, Indiana where he ran a farm implement business.
    During the Civil War Baldwin enlisted in the Union Army on 4/19/1861 as a 1st Lieutenant and was later commissioned into company A of the (3-Month)6th Indiana Infantry.
    He was Mustered Out on 8/2/1861 at Indianapolis, Indiana. On 9/12/1861 he was commissioned Company A of the (3-year) 6th Indiana Infantry.

    He was Killed on 9/19/1863 at Chickamauga, Georgia while rallying his brigade. Grabbing the colors of the 6th Indiana, he swung his horse around toward the enemy and cried, "Follow Me!" He was answered by a volley of bullets. Sadly, his body was never recovered. It is believed that his body is buried with the unknown at Chickamauga.
