In Berlin, Rensselaer Co., N. Y., July 20th, 1873, of internal cancerous tumor, Mrs. Phebe Greenman, wife of Schuyler Greenman, and daughter of Edward Whitford, late of Adams Centre, in the 60th year of her age. When a girl of seventeen, Sister Greenman took upon herself the vows of the Christian religion, uniting at that early age with the Seventh-day Baptist Church of Berlin, then under the pastoral care of Eld. Wm. Satterlee, by whom she was baptized in the stream that flows by the door of her residence where she died. Last winter, unconscious of the disease which resulted in her death, she visited her friends in Adams, Jefferson county, and came home to die. From the first, no encouragement was entertained that she would recover, and she vied her steadily approaching death with confidence and trust in Christ. During her sickness, she received the intelligence of her sister's death, and remarked with composure, "I soon will be with her." Death had no terror for her; but the sundering of ties which bound her to her family, to her husband and children, were painful to all. Thus another shining name is added to our roll of departed ones. Over forty years membership in our church had given her a place in the affections of all, not easily filled. She died in the bosom of the family she had helped to rear, and husband and children closed her eyes, when she had calmly breathed her last, after receiving her dying words of love, and promising to meet her in heaven. We bid her farewell, in blessed hope of immortality in Christ.
