Thomas Porter married Phebe Leavit, both of Hartland 31 August 1786. (West Hartland Cong. Ch. Rec.) Phebe's parentage is unknown but by tradition she was the only child and her parents both died about 1763 when she was about two or three years old. Whether Leavit was her real name or the name of the people who raised her is unknown. Also by tradition Phebe was a Mayflower descendant according to Almira Porter Hemenway a grand-daughter. She probably is a descendant of William Leavitt, of Littleworth, County of Essex, on the East Coast of England.

Phebe Leavit was born ca. 17 March 1841 and died at New London, Huron County, Ohio 17 Sept. 1761, age 80 yrs. 6 mo. (Gravestone) She is buried in Miller or Butterfield Cemetery just north of New London, along with a son Aurora.
