  • This Indenture made this Thirtyeth day of August Seventeen Hundred and Fifty between Manadow Philips of Cecil County in the Province of Maryland Planter of the one part and Nicholas Hyland of the same county and Province Gent'l of the other part.
WITNESSETH whereas John Carr Late of Cecil County Deceased did by his last will and testament devise and bequeath all his estate Both Real and Personal to his wife and children to be Equall divided among them and at the time of his death did leave a son and four daughters who afterwords divided the Lands with each of there several parts. One of which Daughters so called Paternella afterwords intermarried with a certain Peter Manadow which said Peter had by the said Paternella an only daughter called Elizabeth which said daughter married a certain Samuel Philips by whom she had the above named Manadow Philips as her eldest son and Heir and Right Heir to the aforesaid Paternella Daughter and one of the Devisees of the said John Carr and whereas the said Paternella and her Husband have always held and possessed her divided part of her Said Father John Carr's land which was Layd right to her by the other devisees in manner following That is all or part of a Tract of Land Lying on Elk River Called Carr's Manner That is contained in the lines and boundaries following Beginning at a Bounded Oak Tree Standing on a Hill near a Creek Behind the cleared ground that formerly belonged to John Corsine and the said tree being the first Bounded Tree of the land that Peter Picoe bought from Peter Manadow and Patonella his wife the Said Land being part of the aforesaid Patonella Shear of Part which she possessed by her father Captain John Carr's Will Running from said Oak Tree East South East to a Bounded Post by Elk River side and from thence running Northeast up the said Elk River and Binding with the said river of Elk about one hundred and twenty perches or till it intersect the West or Northwest line of said Land which line crosses the creek by the end of a Ditch on the west side of said creek where stands a Bounded White Oak Tree which tree has always been deemed to stand in the Line between the land formerly belonging to Peter Clauson and Peter Manadow which land they and by there Wifes as there parts of Capt. John Carr's Manner of Elk River and Running from said White Oak Tree Standing by the end of the Ditch West Northwest into the woods for length Five Hundred forth perches or to the Extent Back Line of said Carr's Manner and from thence running Southwest till it intersects the West Northwest line of Johannes Arinst Land which he bought from Daniel Pecoe the heir of the aforesaid Peter Picoe and from thence down along the said Johannes Arainst West Northwest line to a bounded Poast and from thence with a Strate line to the first Boanded Oak Tree Standing on a hill aforesaid Containing and Lade out for two hundred and seventy acres more or less...
