Peter Shaul was born about 1750, based on age when he came to America. He died about 1804 in Harrison Co., Virginia (now WV), and is probably buried in the old Ellsworth Cemetery, now known as Bethel Cemetery near the Good Hope community. He married Rosanna Ellsworth about 1779 in Augusta or Rockingham Co., Virginia (now Pendleton Co., WV). daughter of Moses Ellsworth, Sr. and Anna Maria "Mary" Elizabeth Henckel. They were blessed with ten known children: Peter S., John Cheuvront, Margaret, Matthew, Saul Henckel, Sarah, Aaron, Jacob, Moses Ellsworth, and Asa Shinn.
t is known that in 1789 Peter's wife Rosanna, was confirmed in the North Fork Lutheran Church by her cousin Rev. Paul Henkel, and is believed that Peter was of the Lutheran faith. However, they may have became Methodist after moving to Harrison Co. Stands to reason they would become Methodist living among the Methodist families of Ellsworth, Cheuvront Bumgardner, and others. Also, for the fact that they named their last son Asa Shinn after Rev. Asa Shinn, a Methodist Episcopal minister.
Peter died in Harrison Co. where his will was proved in 1804. He left his wife, Rosanna, and several small children to raise, the youngest under age 2. A few years following his death Rosanna joined her adult children in Champaign Co. (Clark Co. 1818), Ohio. Here in Dec 1812, she married George Stewart and here she died between 1820 and Jan 29, 1827, date Mr. Stewart died.
