Peter Ringo migrated to Red River from Missouri with his family in 1840 and established a ferry on the Sulphur Fork which was operated by family members until 1900, when it was replaced by the Ringo Bridge.[5] (The bridge was retired from use in the 1930s, reportedly due to construction defects.)

    Red River County -- About two weeks ago, a precept was placed in the hands of the sheriff to arrest Green Caudle, who was living in the house of Peter Ringo, and a capias for two of Mr. Ringo's sons, Elias and Samuel. Later a posse was formed and a Mr. Wm. Powers shot and killed Peter Ringo.
