    Peter Reed was an early Scotland County, Missouri settler receiving land patents in 1853.

    The biography of John Washington Reed, Peter Reed's son, as it appears on page 1205 of the History of Clark, Lewis, Knox and Scotland Counties first published in 1877, describes Peter Reed's family as being of German descent. It further states that Peter Reed learned the blacksmith trade as a young man, serving an apprenticeship for four years and proved to be a successful farmer and blacksmith.

    A receipt of sale for the property of Peter Reed dated June 11, 1854, included in the sale several head of livestock including horses, sheep, hogs and other interesting items: one plough and plough gear, one scythe blade, one side saddle, one loom, two spinning wheels, one stack of oats, one stack of fodder, a pen of corn, one table, one bureau, two pair of bed steads and one other bed for a total of $529.25.

    Real estate listed at the sale was 40 acres in Section 20, Township 66, Range 13 which sold for $100; 80 acres in the same area which sold for $400 and 16 acres in the same area which sold for $12.50 for total of 136 acres and a total sale of real estate of $582.50.
