On his return to America in 1766, studied theology and began preaching to Lutheran congregations in the
neighborhood of Phila.
Became a clergyman Ch. of Eng. in order to take charge of a parish at Woodstock, Va., settled mostly by Penna. Lutherans, where he remained fr. 1772 until 1775.
