Keister, Peter. Will probated Feb 3, 1840.
Names wife Elizabeth (who was dead at making of will, June, 1839) , and children Henry, Peter, Susannah and Catherine.

- Note: there is nothing in the will that indicates that Peter Keister's wife Elizabeth had died at or prior to the making of his will, in fact she is found in the 1860 Census as head of household living with her son Peter Keister and family.

Last will and Teatamoney of Peter Keister of Montgomery County & State of Virginia.
"I give and bequeath unto my sixth son Henry Keister his heirs & assignees the plantation I now reside on lying & being in the County of Montgomery & State of Virginia on the waters of Toms Creek after my desist and my beloved wife's Elizabeth Keister, I further give & bequeath unto my sixth son Henry Keister all my land lying in Rockingham county on Stoutes? Branch."
"I also give & bequeath unto my sixth son Henry Kister all my movable estate with the exception of a certain parcel of moveable property that belongs to my two daughters Susanah Kister & Catherine Keister that is to say too bedes & beding one lenarogh? one obeancy? peress? one cluck one ___ loast? too milkes cowes & too Labels? belonging to Susanah Keister & too bedes & beding one bearrey? one corner caberd too tabels one candelstand too milkes cowes one mar[e] belonging to Cathrine Keister".
"I further order that my son Henry Keister payes to the respective Legatees in three years after my beloved wife Elizabeth Keister decest that is to say $75 to Elizabeth Price & too hundred to Susanah Keister & one hundred dollars to Jacob Keister & seventy five dollars to Sarahan Barger & fiftey dollars to Marcey Barger and too hundred to Cathrine Keister & one hundred dollars to Peter Keister & one hundred dollars to Joh[n] P. Keister and one hundred dollars to David Keister, & too hundred dollars to Allasa Keister which said several legacies or sumes of money I will & order to be paid to the said respective legatees within three years after ower? decastes and if my said son Henry Keister should fail to pay the sicten? sumes of money to the legatees aganst the time mentioned I order that the plantation I now resid on shall be sold & thes paymentes to be paid & I further order my son Henry Keister shall be paid four hundred dollars with intrust [interest] from February the ninth Eighteen hundred & thirty nine until paid out of the land money. I further will and order that my son Henry Keister shall have too hundred dollars out of the land money provided the plantation is sold. I further will & order my son Henry Keister shall & will furnish me Peter Keister & my beloved wife Elizabeth Keister with good meat bread during ouer lives, & lastely I give & bequath into my son Henry Keister all the remainder of my goods and chattels of what ever kind & names? severeed?."
"I give and bequeath the same to my said son Henry Keister whom I hereby appoint exceutrix. I also appoint my secent eldest son Peter Keister execrtrix of this my last will & testament hereby revoking all former wills by me maid in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twelth day of June 1839."

At a court held for Montgomery County the 3rd day of February 1840.
This last will and testament of Peter Keister deceased, was presented in court & proven by the oaths of George Knode & Thomas Holley two of the witnesses thereto subscribed, & ordered to be recorded. And on the motions of Henry Keister the executor therein named & Lamuel? Harless his securities, entered into & acknowledged as bond in the penalty of $5000, conditioned as the law directs: A certificate is granted him for obtaining a probat[e] of said will in due form.
