"4. Deacon Peter Buell, of Lebanon and Litchfield, Conn., eighth child of John Buell, of Killingworth, Lebanon and Litchfield, Conn., was born at Lebanon, Conn., 22d May, 1710, and removed with his father to Litchfield, Conn., in 1720, where he died 10th May, 1784. When Deacon Peter Buell died, the Rev. Judah Champion, his pastor (whose extraordinary prayer on the Revolutionary War is often quoted), on preaching his funeral discourse, was overcome by his emotions, and sobbed out in the midst of his sermon, 'My deacon's dead! my deacon's dead!!'"
