About Peter Bann, Sr.
Peter Paul Bann, Sr. was born 1 March 1889 in Gravosa, Dubrovnik Austria, now located in the Republic of Croatia. According to the 1930 U.S. Census, Peter emigrated to the United States just after the turn of the century in 1907. On Peter Bann's Petition for Naturalization, he stated that he came to America on the ship "Alberta", which sailed from Trieste, (tnen in Austria) on 5 January 1907 and arrived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on 5 February 1907.
In 1917, Peter was living at 190 N. Front Street in Steelton, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, when he signed his World War I Draft Registration Card on 5 June 1917. According to the information included on that card, he was working as a painter for Bethleham Steel Company, was married with a wife and one child, was of medium height and build, had brown eyes, black hair and was missing the index finger of his right hand.
In 1930, Peter and his family were listed in the U.S. Census in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania. They owned a home on N. Wilton St, which was valued at $3,400 and was still working as a painter. He stated that he came to America in 1907, was naturalized (had become an American citizen) and was living with his wife Helen (age 39) and children Mildred H. (age 17), Helen R. (age 10), Rita C. (age 9) and son Peter P. (age 8 months).
Prior to 1938, Peter and his family had migrated to San Francisco, California, where he was listed in the San Francisco City Directory living at 21 Portola Drive. He was still working as a painter and was listed with his wife Helen.
In 1942, Peter Paul Bann, age 53, was living at 230 11th Ave. in San Francisco with his wife Helen according to his World War II Draft Registration Card. He stated that he was working in the Paint Department for the Golden Gate Bridge Highway District, and that he was born March 1st 1889 in Dubrovonik, Jugoslavia.
Peter Bann passed away on 12 February 1965 in San Francisco County, California and was buried three days later in Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, Colma, San Mateo, California [Find-A-Grave].
Relationships
Peter P. Bann, Sr. was the maternal grandfather of former USC Head Coach and current Seattle Seahawks Head Coach Pete Carroll, b. 1951.
