    Bio: Sam Smith, Sr., a retired painter with the Office of Highways, a member of Bethany World Prayer Center and a resident of Baton Rouge, went to be with the Lord at 12:45 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, at his home. He was 89 and a native of Coffee Springs, Ala.

    Survived by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy Hebert Smith; three sons and daughters-in-law, Sam Jr. and Kathie Smith, Tommy and Elizabeth Smith and Eddy and Karla Smith, all of Baton Rouge; three sisters, Louise Cowart, Emma Smith, Baker, and Theresa Kelly, Prairieville; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

    Preceded in death by parents, Conday and Alice Jefferies Smith; five brothers, Issach, Pete, Jack, Tom and Johnny Smith; two sisters, Tilly O'Hara and Annie Lang; and two grandchildren, Tracy and Mark Smith.
