Mr. Percy Eugene Hailey, age 93, of Wilmington, died Saturday, September 6, 2003, at Mariner Health Care Center.

Mr. Hailey was born September 14, 1909, in Rockingham County, NC, the son of the late Percy Tavner and Minnie Smith Hailey. He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-five years, Gertrude Evelyn Jefferies Hailey in 1995. He had been a resident of Wilmington for over sixty years.

"Peach," as he was fondly known, spent the first thirty years of his life in Leaksville (now Eden), NC, in Rockingham County. He joined the Army and was stationed for three years at Fort Randolph, Panama Canal Zone, with Battery E., 1st Coast Artillery (AA). He completed his military obligations as a reservist with the NC National Guard. Mr. Hailey will be buried with military honors.

Survivors include his two sons, Ronald E. Hailey of Angier, NC, Michael R. Hailey and wife Linda of Four Oaks, NC; his daughter, Barbara H. Robbins and husband Alex of Wilmington; five grandchildren, Scott A. Robbins and wife Mary Anne, David Keith Hailey, Kimberly H. Meier, Amanda L. Hailey, Jeff R. Hailey; and five great-grandchildren. While part of a large, family (6 children), Mr. Hailey is survived by one sister, Edna Kallam of Eden, NC; two brothers, Reid Hailey of Eden and Rev. Smith Hailey of Macon, GA.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, September 10, 2003, at Greenlawn Memorial Park by the Reverend Mark Teachey, Associate Pastor of Winter Park Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Service, Oleander Chapel on Tuesday, September 9, 2003, from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M. and at other times will be at the home of his daughter, Barbara Robbins, 5002 Clear Run Drive, Wilmington. It is requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Winter Park Baptist Church, "Building On The Dream" fund, 4700 Wrightsville Ave., Wilmington, NC 28403.
