UNDERHILL -- Pauline May (Stiles) Cook, age 91, an Underhill resident for 70 years, died peacefully at her home Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003. She was born in Johnson on May 25, 1911, the youngest child of the late Harry and Ada (Ballard) Stiles.

She taught elementary school in North Troy, Underhill, Cloverdale, Fairfax, and Essex Junction. For 11 years she was the librarian at the Essex Junction High School and Educational Center.
Her special interest was being with her family and she hosted many gatherings of the Stiles clan for dinner, horseshoes, and basement pool. She also enjoyed playing the piano, and from an early start playing for the silent movies. She continued to be an active pianist until a few months before her death.
She is survived by two sons, Dr. Philip Cook of Underhill, and Dr. Lawrence Cook and his companion Dr. Winnie Wong of Boyds, M.D.; two grandsons, Thomas Cook of Falls Church, Va., and William Cook of New York City; several nieces and nephews; her special friends, Norma Mitchell of Underhill, Charlotte McNall of Fairfax, and Jim Chapman of Burlington.
